Jacksonville University
waterfront building
Ford 3 has designed a waterfront building for Jacksonville University to unite the waterfront and campus that will be the heart of the university sailing team and beach front activities. The program space of the building is inserted like a wedge under the lawn to make a habitable green roof allowing students to gather on the hill to watch regattas on the water and intramural soccer games on the lawn. The watercraft storage area is a multifunctional space that provides ample storage for the watercraft and can be transformed into a venue for large events and gatherings. The building's program consists of locker rooms, offices, classrooms, meeting rooms and a cafe.
Some of the building's sustainable features include: the shade roof structure, the green roof, rain water collection to be used for rinsing off watercrafts and irrigation, indirect sunlight used as primary lighting and natural ventilation.
