The unitarian church
Given the constraints of the site and the condition of the church, it was doubtful that the Unitarian Church in Summit, NJ would find a simple solution to support the church’s growing congregation. In its former state, the old sanctuary lacked connection to any of the necessary amenities like toilets, offices, or a fellowship hall. After considering several different options, including relocation or a split between the church and classroom building, it was decided that the best solution would be to incorporate all the facilities onto the present church site. To achieve maximum use of the site, the existing church building was lifted and a fellowship hall was constructed underneath. The old residence behind the church was replaced with a new classroom building that is connected to the church by a new entrance link.
