Eating Club Additions and Renovations
The Princeton Charter Club
The Princeton Charter Club is a historic three-story clubhouse on Prospect Avenue, designed by Philadelphia architects Mellor & Meigs and a key element in the Prospect Avenue Historic District. Originally built for a membership of just forty male students, the club has evolved into a lively community of more than 200 undergraduate members of all genders.
In 2015, Ford 3 was asked to help the Club look ahead: to evaluate the building, understand how it was really being used, and plan upgrades that could expand food service, restore key interior spaces to their original roles, and improve access and circulation. This planning effort became Project 79.
The resulting additions and interior renovations introduced a new servery and dining room, an accessible entrance, updated restroom facilities, and a three-stop elevator. Outdoor terraces and a new pavilion further extend the Club’s social spaces into the landscape. Together, these improvements honor the building’s historic character while equipping it to serve the Charter community for the next century and beyond.
